VIENNA BOYS CHOIR

November 1 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Sponsored by Doreen & Kevin Fisher

Experience the angelic voices of one of the world’s most treasured musical ensembles.

The Vienna Boys Choir is one of the most famous and oldest choirs in the world. Boys have been singing at Vienna’s Imperial Chapel since at least 1296, and in 1498, Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I established a Court Chapel in Vienna, declaring that boys were to be among the singers—thus laying the foundation for what became the Vienna Boys Choir.

Today, this former imperial ensemble is a private, non-profit organization with a primary and grammar school serving 330 boys and girls between the ages of six and nineteen, all with a focus on choral music and singing. Their education, listed by UNESCO as cultural heritage, is open to all regardless of origin, gender, nationality, or religion.

The Vienna Boys Choir consists of four touring choirs that perform nearly 300 concerts each year for audiences totaling nearly half a million people. Since 1924, they have completed over 1,000 tours in 100 countries, performing more than 29,000 concerts. On Sundays, the choirs sing mass in Vienna’s Imperial Chapel alongside members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the men’s chorus of the Vienna State Opera.

The choir has performed under the direction of celebrated conductors including Joana Mallwitz, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Christian Thielemann, Simone Young, and Franz Welser-Möst, and has appeared at the Salzburg Festival and the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert.

A proud partner of UNICEF and other charitable organizations, the Vienna Boys Choir celebrated its 525th anniversary in 2023 with a live album released by Deutsche Grammophon, a 21-CD box set from Decca Classics, and a commemorative book by Böhlau. In 2024, the Vienna Boys Choir and the Vienna Girls Choir jointly received the European Culture Award.

The Choir’s Artistic Director is Erasmus Baumgartner, and its President is Erich Arthold.

Join us for a night of breathtaking harmonies and timeless tradition as the Vienna Boys Choir brings centuries of musical excellence to the Brauntex stage!
